Unseen Fluctuations: Challenging Inflation | Robert Brandenberger

Posted by in categories: cosmology, education, Elon Musk, evolution, particle physics, quantum physics

“I view string theory as the most promising way to quantize matter and gravity in a unified way. We need both quantum gravity and we need unification and a quantization of gravity. One of the reasons why string theory is promising is that there are no singularities associated with those singularities are the same type that they offer point particles.” — Robert Brandenberger.

In this thought-provoking conversation, my grad school mentor, Robert Brandenberger shares his unique perspective on various cosmological concepts. He challenges the notion of the fundamental nature of the Planck length, questioning its significance and delving into intriguing debates surrounding its importance in our understanding of the universe. He also addresses some eyebrow-raising claims made by Elon Musk about the limitations imposed by the Planck scale on the number of digits of pi.

The former Twitter exec who went viral for sleeping on the office floor said she had no choice but to do so because of Elon Musk’s ‘nearly impossible deadline’

A former Twitter executive said she slept on the office floor because Elon Musk gave her a “nearly impossible deadline.”

Esther Crawford, the former director of product management at the social-media giant, which rebranded as X this week, retweeted a photo of her wrapped up in a sleeping bag on the floor of one of Twitter’s conference rooms in November. “When your team is pushing round the clock to make deadlines sometimes you #SleepWhereYouWork,” Crawford wrote in the caption.

The photo of her lying on the floor and wearing an eye mask went viral.

“The ad money will otherwise be kept by X if you are not an X Premium (Blue) subscriber,” Musk said in a post.

To be eligible for the program, creators also need to be at least 18 years old, have a minimum of 500 followers, and have 15 million or more “organic impressions” on posts within the last three months.

The price of an X premium subscription starts at $8 per month, or $84 a year, and it gives users access to extra features such as “Edit.”

Elon Musk Says Mark Zuckerberg’s Threads ‘Committed The Cardinal Sin’ Of Boring People To Death

Posted by in categories: electronics, Elon Musk

As Meta Platforms Inc.’s META latest social media platform, Threads’ daily active user count continues to drop, Elon Musk has accused Mark Zuckerberg’s forum of committing a “cardinal sin.”

What Happened: Meta’s Threads entered the social media arena with much fanfare, quickly attracting over 100 million sign-ups in just five days.

However, the initial hype didn’t translate into long-term user retention, as the daily active user count witnessed a staggering 82% decline since its peak at 44 million users on launch day, reported CNN, citing data from Sensor Tower.

AI.com once took you to ChatGPT. Now, it goes to Elon Musk’s xAI

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, robotics/AI

Will someone please tell us who the hell owns AI.com and what they’re doing with it?

The domain, which used to direct to ChatGPT, now redirects users to xAI, an AI company owned by Elon Musk. Separate from X Corp, xAI claims on its website that it “will work closely with X,” the social media company formerly known as Twitter — including using posts on X as training for its large language model.

The high-value AI.com domain name changed hands in 2021, sat idle for a while, and then suddenly started redirecting to ChatGPT in February. For ChatGPT users, it was a helpful shortcut if they didn’t have the site bookmarked and couldn’t quite remember the precise URL for the chatbot (chat.openai.com, for the record).

Elon Musk says Tesla is now working on ‘final piece of the FSD AI puzzle’

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, robotics/AI, transportation

Elon Musk says Tesla is now working on the “final piece of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) AI puzzle,” and apparently that is “vehicle control.”

Despite his best efforts to stop making predictions about self-driving, the CEO has recently still predicted that Tesla would achieve full autonomy by the end of the year.

For many of us who use Tesla’s FSD Beta regularly, it is hard to imagine that Tesla can make the jump from the current state to a level 4 or 5 of autonomy where the automaker would take responsibility for the system and enable drivers to use it without monitoring in just a few months.
