Methionine Restricted Diets May Slow Down Aging

Researchers at the Penn State College of Medicine believe that the health and longevity benefits seen in animals on sulfur amino acid-restricted diets could also work in humans. The concept of dietary sulfur amino acid restriction has been of interest to researchers for almost 30 years when the first studies showed health benefits in animals placed on methionine-restricted diets.

Amino acids are the building blocks of all proteins in our body, and methionine and cysteine both belong to a subgroup known as the sulfur amino acids. These help the body to create various proteins and are involved in metabolism.

Is the Preservation of Beauty as we Age Just Vanity?

How many times have you heard someone say that the pursuit of beauty, or of its preservation over time, is a “vain” endeavor? My guess would be probably many. That’s why you need to tread carefully if you plan to present the preservation of looks as an argument in favor of rejuvenation biotechnology—you might be stepping into a minefield.

Quite frankly, I never got what’s so wrong with wanting to maintain youthful beauty over time, and I’d tend to think we’re dealing with a fox-and-grapes situation here.

Humankind could risk dying out if we don’t develop life extension technology

A lot of people worry about overpopulation, but maybe it’s population decline we should worry about instead?

In earlier times, population growth was limited by the fact that the majority of children died before they were old enough to have children themselves. Illness and lack of resources has probably contributed greatly to the high childhood mortality. Today our technology is better, and so we are able to utilize the Earth’s resources more efficiently, and now, luckily, most people survive childhood. This has led to a population explosion. The greater number of people has led to faster technological progress, which is making room for still more people, and so on — a virtuous circle that helps to give human beings a better standard of living.

If you’re alive in 30 years, chances are good you may also be alive in 1000 years

“So considering how far we’ve come already and how fast technology is improving and can be expected to improve in the future, I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’ll have the aging process under control in less than 30 years. Maybe 30 years is too cautious an estimate, even. Ray Kurzweil has said that already by 2030, life expectancy will increase by one year per year, and I actually won’t be very surprised if he’s right. But everyone in the world won’t get access to the technology as early as Kurzweil estimates, which is why nearly 30 years might still be closer to the truth for most people?”

Hormone Replacement: Can It Treat Aging Skin?

Aging skin is a major concern for menopausal women – who experience hormone changes – as it affects self-confidence, psychological wellbeing, intimate relationships, and is the one life challenge where women don’t budget. The anti-aging industry, which is worth $50 billion a year, knows this very well!

When women notice more wrinkles, increased sagging, dullness, dryness and feeling less attractive, they usually opt for fillers, Botox, threads, chemical peels, etc. However, the question remains: how long will all of these sustain rapidly aging skin? Scientific evidence suggests that women lose 30% of their collagen content in the first five menopausal years. Recently, it has been proposed that using bioidentical HRT during this critical time of rapid skin aging can hugely prevent menopausal skin aging.
