TERT activation targets DNA methylation and multiple aging hallmarks

This study identifies a small molecule (TAC) that restores physiological levels of TERT throughout aged tissues, resulting in the rejuvenation of multiple tissues. Specifically, TAC administration in very aged mice alleviates multiple aging hallmarks such as cellular senescence and systemic inflammation, promotes new neuron formation with improved cognitive ability, enhances neuromuscular function, and is well tolerated with no evidence of toxicity.

A new study published in Science Advances on June 21, led by Wade Van Horn, professor in Arizona State University’s School of Molecular Sciences and Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics, has uncovered new insights into the main human cold and menthol sensor TRPM8 (transient receptor potential melastatin 8). Using techniques from many fields like biochemistry and biophysics, their study revealed that it was a chemical sensor before it became a cold temperature sensor.

Human trials to begin for new teeth regeneration drug

Scientists at Kyoto University Hospital will conduct the first human trial of the drug from September 2024 to August 2025. In tests on ferrets and mice, the drug worked with no notable side effects, Popular Mechanics reported.

The drug will be used on 30 men between 30–64 who are missing at least one molar. From there, researchers will expand the study to those with partial edentulism, or those missing one to five permanent teeth.

A new study looks at the connection between fruit and vegetable intake and sleep duration. The research, by a team from Finland’s University of Helsinki, National Institute for Health and Welfare, and Turku University of Applied Sciences, is published in Frontiers in Nutrition.
