Dr. Sheldon Saul Hendler

Sheldon Saul Hendler, Ph.D., M.D., FACP, FACN, FAIC is the principal author and editor of the PDR for Nutritional Supplements, whose publication was considered a watershed event.
 
Sheldon is Clinical Professor (Voluntary) of Medicine, University of California, San Diego, Attending Physician (Internal Medicine), Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, Professor (Honorary) Biochemistry, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Medicinal Food (Mary Ann Liebert, Publishers) and Chairman, Vyrex Corporation, a biotechnology company.
 
He has published in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, cancer research, dermatology, and neurological research, among others. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Salk Institute where his research contributed to the discovery of the fine structure of the chromosome as well as to the development of the first antiviral and retroviral drugs.
 
Sheldon serves on the Scientific Advisory Council of Archer Daniels Midland and was a member of the AARP Pharmacy Nutrition Advisory Board and the Scientific and Nutrition Subcommittee of the United States Olympic Committee. He has written several award winning books in the field of dietary supplementation, including The Doctor’s Vitamin and Mineral Encyclopedia and the PDR for Nutritional Supplements.
 
His papers include Isolation of a Polyoma—Nucleoprotein Complex from Infected Mouse-Cell Cultures, Propofol Phosphate, a Water-Soluble Propofol Prodrug: In Vivo Evaluation, Synthesis and chemical properties of monomers and polymers containing 7-methylguanine and an investigation of their substrate or template properties for bacterial deoxyribonucleic acid or ribonucleic acid polymerases, and Propofol Hemisuccinate Protects Neuronal Cells from Oxidative Injury.
 
Sheldon’s patents include Method for inhibiting viral and retroviral infections, Antiviral agents, Metallic oligopeptide complexes, Isoflavone derivatives, Tocopherol-based antiviral agents and method of using same, Complexing urushiols, Airborne protectants against oxidative tissue damage, Methods for inhibition of angiogenesis with a composition comprising 3-hydroxythalidomide, Methods for delipidation of skin and cerumen removal, and Water-soluble prodrugs of propofol for treatment of migraine.
 
Sheldon is also an accomplished musician and composer.
