Dr. Ramón Risco Delgado

Ramón Risco Delgado, Ph.D. was born in 1966 in Seville, Spain. He studied three years of Physics at the University of Seville, and two years in the specialty of Theoretical Physics in Granada. He was granted by the Nuclear Energy Board (Madrid) to study problems related to Nuclear Fusion by magnetic confinement. He earned his Ph.D. working with Franco Selleri (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, Bari, Italy) and Anton Zeilinger (Institute für Experimentalphysik, Innsbruck, Austria), where he works on the problem of non-locality in Quantum Physics.

He created the research group FQM-239 of the Junta de Andalucía, Foundations of Quantum Mechanics. In 2002, he redirected its scientific activity towards biotechnology, specifically to the cryopreservation of biological material. He created the CryoBioTech Research Group. He did much of his research in cryopreservation at Harvard University (Boston, USA). He worked closely with the Center for Engineering in Medicine, (Boston, USA).

In 2007, he invented a technology capable of cryopreserved cell types: human ovum and stem cells as well as certain nematodes. He patented the technology and got a recognition from the Merck Foundation, receiving the award from the Minister of Health Dr. Bernat Soria.

He investigates the cryopreservation of large human organs, cryopreservation of the fruit fly (Drosophila), and tumor biopsies, with excellent results to date, obtaining a very important factor in organ transplant and research progress against cancer. In 2013 he founded the “spin-off” SafePreservation, which has earned 20 ISI publications, 3 patents, 1 patent licensed, 30 conference contributions, 4 led thesis projects, 30 final projects, 10 funded projects, and 4 companies contracts.

He authored and published the book La Paradoja de Einstein, Podolsky y Rosen (EPR paradox), coauthored more than 6 books on Quantum Mechanics, Cryopreservation, and Local Realism and published in multiple journals among others, MIT Technology Review, Cryobiology, Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Economist, Asebir, Medicina Reproductiva y Embriología Clínica, Human Reproduction, The Journal of Physical Chemistry, European Physical Journal D. Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Plasma Physics, Foundations Of Physics, and many others.
