Paul Hynek, MBA

Paul Hynek, MBA is Director of Business Affairs at Giant Studios.

Paul has worked in a variety of industries around the world, from product development to education to finance to entertainment to what he really likes, high tech and software.

He’s now happily ensconced at Giant Studios, home of the “real” Pandora. Giant Studios is the world leader in performance capture and virtual production. Starting with Gollum in Lord of the Rings, they’ve done Narnia 1 & 2, I Am Legend, King Kong, Hulk, Iron Man, Happy Feet 1 & 2, 2012, Night at the Museum 1 & 2, Polar Express, Real Steel, Hereafter, and many others.

Paul recently did Tintin with Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, and for almost five years, Avatar was shot in his studio. Whenever you see a Na’vi move, that’s him. Working with Jim Cameron, he also pioneered a “virtual camera” which allows filmmakers to see their CG world, in this case, Pandora, with their characters, in real time.

He is active in nonprofits. He’s former Board Chair of the American Red Cross of Santa Monica, is on the Board of the Santa Monica Symphony, and after creating “Project Hometree” for the launch of Avatar, has remained involved with the La Reserva Forest Foundation in Costa Rica.

Paul earned an MBA from The Wharton School of Business, an MA from the University of Pennsylvania in International Studies, and a BA from the University of Illinois.
