Jim Sevey

Jim Sevey is Senior Director of Strategic Partnering and Scientific Field Development at Titan Spine. Jim has specialized in medical devices and biologics for 25 years working on concepts, designs, and new technologies within multiple specialties. He has brought to market multiple products through PMA and 510(k) routes in spine, orthopedic trauma, craniofacial, dental, interventional radiology, and cardiology.

In 2015, Titan Spine, a medical device surface technology company focused on developing innovative spinal interbody fusion implants, announced the appointment of Jim as the company’s Senior Nanotechnology Specialist. The appointment followed the company’s receipt of 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its Endoskeleton line of interbody fusion implants featuring its next generation nanoLOCK surface technology and precedes the company’s full commercialization of the new line. The nanoLOCK surface represents the only FDA-cleared nanotechnology for spinal implant applications.

Jim’s role includes leading the educational initiatives to further demonstrate and communicate the scientific evidence supporting the advantages of Titan Spine’s unique nanoLOCK surface technology. The surface features an increased amount of nano-scaled textures that result in the up-regulation of a greater amount of osteogenic and angiogenic growth factors critical for bone growth and fusion as compared to PEEK and the company’s previous surface.

His focus is surgeon education, scientific field development and training, as well as clinical development focused on science and data.

Before joining Titan Spine, Jim spent 13 years at Synthes/DePuy Biomaterials where he held several positions, including most recently, Manager, Biomaterials Technical Specialist. In this role, he generated multidivisional sales of osteobiologic product lines by providing clinical and technical consulting, training, and education for surgeons, residents, operating room personnel, and sales consultants.

Prior to Synthes/DePuy Biomaterials, in 2002, Jim was part of the founding team of Skeletal Kinetics, Cupertino, California as Director of Marketing.

Jim started his career in 1996 as the Product Manager at Norian Corporation. In 1999, he became the Senior Global Product Manager at Guidant Corporation in Santa Clara where he was accountable for global dilatation catheter product development, branding, and launch strategy.

In 2000, he joined Project Flint as Director of Marketing, and after a year became the Group Product Manager and RFA of Metastatic Bone Tumors at RITA Medical Systems. He covered all aspects of strategic planning and marketing and was accountable for whole product development of radiofrequency ablation of painful bone tumors. Soon after, in 2002, Jim founded Skeletal Kinetics and became its Director of Marketing.

Jim graduated from St Mary’s College in Moraga, California where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Science and played rugby on the reigning US National Championship Team as a winger and was Captain and President for the team.

Jim continues his passion for rugby and currently coaches the U10, U12, and U14 programs for Granite Bay Rugby in California.
