Chris Mattenberger, MSc

Chris Mattenberger, MSc is the CTO at HydroStar and Senior Research Engineer at Science and Technology Corporation (STC).

At HydroStar, they are working on enabling the hydrogen economy with their electrolyzer technology which is a low-cost, green, reliable system with the capability to capture excess renewable power from the grid to provide clean hydrogen for industry and transportation. Chris has been working as CTO at HydroStar since 2016.

Since the start of 2017, Chris has been also a Senior Research Engineer at STC, where they are providing risk-informed design expertise to support NASA’s Commercial Cargo Resupply Services for the International Space Station.

Previously, he was Research Scientist and Engineer working for NASA Ames Research Center through STC corporation between 2012 and 2015. Chris performed reliability forecasting activities to aid in strategic programmatic decision making; developed physics-based failure models; and supported analysis of satellites, launch vehicles, crewed spacecraft, space mission architectures, and planetary defense from asteroids.

Prior to NASA and SCT, Chris was a System Engineer at Valador for 4 years. He worked directly with spacecraft subsystem design teams to develop reliability models, analyze results, and create risk mitigating design enhancements. He created models of launch vehicle reliability growth.

Chris earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Aerospace Engineering with Information Technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2006. In 2008 he earned his Master’s Degree of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Stanford University.

Chris loves to manifest ideas in his mind into reality with his hands. His career at NASA has not provided him with such an opportunity, however he still managed to build his own rocket.
