Dr. Barry L. Bentley

Barry L. Bentley, Ph.D. is Reader in Bioengineering at the Cardiff School of Technologies, Cardiff Metropolitan University.

His research is focused on classifying and staging organismal senescence and age-related diseases as a cause and disease in itself. Read The inherent challenges of classifying senescence—Response and To help aging populations, classify organismal senescence.

Barry earned his Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge in 2017, where he worked on Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience and Systems and Computational Neuroscience at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology where he mapped and analyzed the neuromodulatory connectome of C. elegans. Barry’s research has included work to verify operational space flight dynamics software with engineers at the University at Buffalo (SUNY) and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Read Verification of the Orekit Java Implementation of the Draper Semi-Analytical Satellite Theory.

He also worked in a collaboration with the Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems (CRNS) and the Advanced Concepts Team at the European Space Agency, investigating brain-inspired control systems for planetary rovers.

Barry earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Computer Science with First Class Honours from the University of Plymouth in 2009.

As well, he was a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the London Business School and Research Analyst at Askew International Research, both in 2018.

As additional experience in mentoring and volunteering, Barry was Academic Ambassador at SENS Research Foundation in 2011, Programme Committee Member (IJCNN) at the International Neural Network Society (INNS) between 2015 and 2019, Programme Committee Member (ICOSST) at IEEE in 2017, Mentor at Cambridge Judge Business School in 2018, Programme Committee Member (ICANN) at European Neural Network Society (ENNS), and Reviewer at Medical Research Council.
