Dr. Alexandra Sharon Bause

Alexandra Sharon Bause, Ph.D. is Cofounder and Investment Director at Apollo Health Ventures, an early-stage investment fund focused on developing interventions that enhance human health and longevity.

Previously Alex worked as a Consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in Munich, Germany, where she specialized in Pharma and Biotech Strategy to drive the development of innovative therapeutics.

Alex earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from Johann Wolfgang Goethe – Universität Frankfurt am Main in 2007.

In 2014, she earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Biological, and Biomedical Sciences at Harvard Medical School, Harvard University. Her Ph.D. studies were focused on investigating the molecular mechanisms that contribute to cellular aging and can be targeted to increase mammalian healthspan.

As a trained pharmacist, Alex has always been following her passion for improving healthy longevity. During her studies in Frankfurt, she was a Student Trainee at Sanofi – Aventis, working in R&D in Science and Medical Affairs.

After her BSc, she did her internship at the Drug Information and Pharmacy Resource Center at the University of Florida in 2007 and became a Pharmacist at Hirsch Pharmacy in the same year.

In 2008, Alex became a Research Assistant at the Arizona Cancer Center, where she worked on Redox Drug Discovery Targeting Skin Cancer and Solar Photodamage. She was also Medical Writer at Edelman, writing on definition and publication of therapeutic guidelines to support the launching of new product at a leading pharmaceutical company. As writing was not satisfying enough, she began pursuing her Ph.D. at Harvard Medical School soon after leaving Edelman.

In the last year of her studies in 2013, Alex became an Associate at The Boston Consulting Group and became a full-time Consultant after her Ph.D.

In 2016, after almost three years at The Boston Consulting Group, Alex cofounded Apollo Health Ventures. She is leading its venture creation programs that conceptualize and develop strategies for innovative biotech ventures targeting the aging process at a molecular level. Alex is also managing the pipeline and diligence process for external investment opportunities, predominantly focusing on preclinical stage biotech companies.
